Wonderland

We were promised a wonderland. Wonderland imagines what's left when that promise is only half kept: a suspended body, neither falling nor coming back, waiting for someone to cut the thread or catch it. There is weariness in that wait, and tenderness too, as if looking at one's own hand were the last way of staying present.
